Corporate Social Responsibility
At LBS, we believe it is important for us to balance our commercial objectives by ensuring that we have a lasting positive impact upon the people and environment around us. We work hard to create the right environment for our colleagues to thrive.
Employee Wellbeing
LBS recognises that our people are our most important asset. As a result, we place a strong emphasis on workplace safety and work-life balance while investing in the development of all colleagues. Our employees can also expect us to provide a secure, safe and healthy working environment and to be treated with respect at all times.
Within LBS, access to employment, development, opportunity, training & development and promotion is:
Free from discrimination on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, age, marital status or pregnancy ethnic origin or disability;
Based solely on the objective assessment of ability and other relevant job-related criteria; and in the case of training and career development, based on agreed need.
All new starters undertake a thorough company induction programme which includes coverage of our commitment to CSR.
Employees are aware of the terms and conditions of their employment from the outset. In particular employees must be made aware of the wage that they receive, when and how it is to be paid, the hours that they must work and any legal limit which exists for their protection and any overtime provisions, as well as our company’s health and safety policy. Employees are also allowed such annual leave, sick leave, maternity / paternity leave and such other leave as is granted by legislation as a minimum.
The Company does not accept harassment in any form, or bullying in any form.
We encourage our colleagues to get to know each other away from the office through a range of social activities. This helps to create a friendly and fun atmosphere inside and outside of the office.
Our employee benefits scheme includes a cycle-to-work scheme, a group personal pension and monthly staff incentives such as ‘Employee of the Month’. We also offer health and well-being benefits through Westfield Health, along with discount cards and much more.
This has helped us maintain a strong and happy team for many years, and also ensures that we attract the very best candidates, and exceptional colleagues within our workplace.
Gender Pay Gap
As a forward-thinking employer with over 50 colleagues, regardless of role or department LBS does not differentiate its pay between male or female employees doing the same or equivalent role
Environment
We are dedicated to environmental improvements that foster a sustainable future.
We recycle waste paper, cardboard, aluminium cans, printer cartridges and use energy saving lighting in our office & warehouse. We are also working towards more paperless solutions, through a number of digital technologies. We also run a car sharing and cycle to work scheme in order to reduce our carbon footprint. We actively promote a wide range of environmentally friendly products such as one of the biggest selections of recycled pots in the industry, water saving products, natural pest control products and peat free growing media.
We have made finding these products and many more as easy as possible for our customers by creating the Eco Products Key in the LBS Buyer Guide, highlighting product that are 100% Recycled or Recyclable or part Recycled, Bio – degradable, Organic, Natural Materials and UK Manufactured. Therefore, helping make our customers aware that when they are buying our products, they are also doing their bit to help save the environment.
LBS has established an Environmental Policy Statement in order to help achieve this aim. Copies of the Environmental Policy Statement are available here.
We strongly believe in doing our part for the cause, and hope to inspire others to follow suit. Together we can make a change.
Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
As a responsible organisation, LBS has produced a Slavery and Human Trafficking statement relating to the period January – December 2022. The statement sets out the steps we have taken to address and prevent the risk of modern slavery within the group and our supply chains. You can read the 2022 statement here.
Supporting Education
At LBS we place great importance on the Continuous Professional Development of our staff by developing and supporting our staff through apprenticeships; coaching and mentoring, education support; talent development programmes; internally designed leadership courses and programmes, we give our staff the tools to help grow and develop their careers.
We have set up links with Burnley College by taking on number of apprentices who are now part of our logistics and marketing teams. It's our aim to further develop this relationship and provide further employment opportunities across the wider business.
Charity and Community
We know that the company and its employees have an important role to play in the communities within which we work and live. We actively encourage our staff to volunteer their time in fundraising for charitable causes.
Our intention is to participate in giving back to the community and to allow the employees of LBS to share in that effort, providing positive enrichment to them and our stakeholders.
We also strive to be a positive force in our community, a good neighbour and sensitive to the local community's cultural, social and economic needs.
